Why do student visas get refused?

Most student refusals have nothing to do with whether the applicant genuinely intends to study. They turn on the financial evidence: money held in an account that does not qualify, funds not kept for the required period, or a source not clearly linked to the applicant or an approved sponsor. Applications sit under the Student route of the Immigration Rules, and the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by your university must line up exactly with what is submitted. A small mismatch can undo an otherwise strong case.

  • Funds not held for the required period before applying
  • Financial evidence in a format the rules do not accept
  • A gap in study, or a change of provider, not handled correctly
  • A CAS that does not match the details in the application
  • A previous refusal left unanswered

Financial requirements

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living costs for the prescribed period.
The required amount depends on your course and where you will study.
The most common issues concern how funds were held, evidenced and documented, not whether they existed.
